CLEVELAND, OH (December 1, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) and sophomore guard Ashleigh Tondo (McDonald, OH-pictured) were one rebound and one assist shy of a double-double this evening as the Spartans defeated Ohio Wesleyan University, 74-61, at home. Horton had nine rebounds and 20 points, while Tondo had nine assists and 20 points.
Tondo put the Spartans up five, 12-7, with a three-pointer at the 13:58 mark in the first half and then gave them their biggest lead of the half, 17 points [42-25], with 44 seconds left on the clock on a foul shot. Tondo had 12 points and eight assists in the first 20 minutes as Case Western Reserve, who shot 58.1 percent, led 42-28.
Ohio Wesleyan's (3-2) Kayla Gordon ended a Battling Bisphop 17-6 run with a three-pointer at the 11:10 mark in the second half to cut the Spartans' lead to three points, 48-45. Ohio Wesleyan remained close until a Case Western Reserve junior forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH) layup with under five minutes left put the Spartan up 11, 65-54.
Case Western Reserve senior guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) added 16 points in the Spartans third straight victory. Pam Quigney led Oho Wesleyan with 14 points. The Spartans outrebounded the Battling Bishops 46-34 on the night.
Case Western Reserve (4-3) hosts the College of Wooster December 8 at 2:00 p.m.
