EMORY 66, CASE 58...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 24, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH-pictured) and junior guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) combined for six three-pointers in a 66-58 University Athletic Association loss at Emory University. Herendeen finished with a team-high 13 points and Dempsey added 11.
Dempsey hit two three-pointers in the first two minutes of the game to put Case (9-16, 1-13 UAA) up 6-3 at the 18:46 mark. Sophomore forward Lora Turner then ended a 12-2 run with a layup at 13:26 that gave Emory (10-15, 4-10 UAA) a five-point lead, 13-8. Herendeen proceeded to give the Spartans the lead twice with consecutive three-pointers. She hit one at 3:39 to make it 29-27 and at 1:12 to give the Spartans a one-point lead, 32-31. Case, who out rebounded the Eagles 26-16 in the first 20 minutes, led 36-33 at the intermission. Herendeen had 10 points in the half.
Sophomore guard Erica Kaplan gave Emory its first lead of the second half, 43-42, with a layup at 14:45. The Eagles pushed their lead to ten, 52-42, on a three-point play (12:23) and layup (11:57) from sophomore forward Lora Turner. Turner finished with a game-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds. After Emory went up 55-42, freshman guard Ashley Tondo (McDonald, OH) finished off a 14-0 run with a three-pointer at 5:03 that gave the Spartans the lead back, 56-55. The game was tied at 58 apiece with two minutes remaining. Emory hit eight of eight foul shots from that point to snap a two-game losing streak.
Junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) finished with a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds).
