#16 BRANDEIS 85, CASE 58...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 19, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University dropped their fourth straight University Athletic Association game, 85-58, to 16th-ranked Brandeis University this evening at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass. Sophomore forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH-pictured) led the Spartans with a season-high 14 points.
Brandeis (12-2, 2-2) led by seven, 20-13, with 7:24 left in the first half, but senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) hit a jumper at 6:50 and then a three-pointer 26 seconds later to bring Case (8-7, 0-4) within two, 20-18. That’s as close as the Spartans would get in the half, as the Judges ended it with a 24-2 run and led 44-20 at the break. Case shot just 29 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 25-10 in the first 20 minutes.
Brandeis pushed its lead to 35 (82-47) with 4:26 left in the game on a three-point play by sophomore forward Amanda Wells. The Judges out-rebounded the Spartans 54-20 in the game as Case shot just 30.6 percent from the field. Brandeis junior guard Jaime Capra had 15 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 25. Case junior guard LaVonne Sherald (Pickerington, OH) and junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) each added 10 points.
Case travels to New York University this Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. contest. The Violets are currently ranked 14 th in the country.
