WASHINGTON 65, CASE 62...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 12, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH-pictured) recorded a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) in a 65-62 University Athletic Association home loss to Washington University (MO) tonight at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
Washington (9-4, 1-1 UAA) jumped out to a ten-point lead, 16-6, when senior center Sarah Tibesar hit a jumper at 13:27. The Bears increased their lead to 11, 22-11 (10:51), before the Spartans cut it to five, 24-19 (4:45), on a senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) made jumper. Case (8-5, 0-2) shot just 34.5 percent and was out-rebounded 24-18 (44-35 in game) in the first half, as Washington held a 10-point lead, 35-25, at intermission.
The Spartans cut Washington’s lead to four points, 51-47, at the 10:13 mark in the second half on a made jumper by Horton. Case then brought the game with one, 63-62, with 2:33 left on a layup made by sophomore forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH). Washington sophomore guard Jill Brandt hit a jumper with 29 second left in the game to put the Bears up three, 65-62.
After the Spartans and Washington both took timeouts with four seconds on the clock, Dempsey launched a three-point attempt that hit the rim at the buzzer. Dempsey finished the game with a team-high 14 points. The Bears were led by senior forward Rebecca Parker, who posted a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds).
Case hosts the University of Chicago Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Chicago is currently ranked 7th in the country.
