CASE 67, BETHANY 38...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 3, 2007) - Junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH-pictured) recorded her second double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) in as many nights as Case Western Reserve University defeated Bethany College 67-38 in a non-conference road game.
After multiple lead changes and ties, sophomore forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH) hit a layup that put Case (8-3) up for good, 22-20, at the 3:08 mark in the first half. The Spartans shot just 35.3 percent from the field in the half, but led the Bisons (4-6) 26-24 at the break.
Junior guard LaVonne Sherald (Pickerington, OH) hit a layup midway through the second half (9:46) to increase Case’s cushion to 18, 46-28. Freshman guard Kendall McKay (Mendon, NY) gave the Spartans their biggest lead of the game, 65-31, when she hit a layup with 4:03 left.
Case senior guards Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) and Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Spartans open-up University Athletic Association play this Saturday at home against Emory University (2:00 p.m.).
