CASE 71, MUSKINGUM 62...
CLEVELAND, OH (December 29, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) led four Spartans in double-digits with 17 points (8-of-12) as Case defeated Muskingum College 71-62 on the road. Spartan senior guard LaVonne Sherald (Pickerington, OH-pictured) added 16 points and a career-high nine assists.
Case (7-2) jumped out to a six-point lead, 13-7, when Sherald hit a three-pointer at the 15:24 mark in the first half. Muskingum (3-8) tied the game 17-17 less than five minutes (10:49) later, but the Spartans would outscore the Muskies 21-9 in the remainder of the half to take a 38-26 advantage into the intermission.
Case junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) pushed the lead to 15, 52-37, with a layup at the 15:34 mark in the second half. Horton finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. Muskingum battled back and came within two points, 54-52, but Case hung on to win its second straight.
Spartan senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) added 12 points. Case travels to Ohio Wesleyan University January 2 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
