CLEVELAND, OH (December 16, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University had four players score in double-digits in its 90-71 victory over visiting Bluffton University at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Center. Case (6-2) senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) had a game-high 20 points, senior guard Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) had 19, freshman guard Ashleigh Tondo (McDonald, OH) had 15 and freshman guard Kendall McKay (Mendon, NY-pictured) added 12.
Dempsey hit her first of three first half three-pointers at the 18:04 mark to give Case an early 5-2 lead. Tondo then made it a 12-point advantage, 35-23, with 5:32 left. Bluffton (0-9) never got any closer than seven points in the remainder of the half. Case out-rebounded the Beavers 26-19 and forced 10 turnovers. Dempsey finished with 15 points and Tondo nine, as the Spartans led 43-33 at the intermission.
Case did not let up in the second half. Tondo capped off a 12-4 run with a jump shot at the 16:08 mark to make it 55-37 Case. McKay then pushed the Spartans’ lead to 23 points, 73-50, with a layup at 11:18. Case, which shot 56.7 percent from the field in the last 20 minutes, out-rebounded Bluffton (45-36) in the contest. Junior forward Lindsay Bush led Bluffton with 17 points.
