KENYON 69, CASE 55...
CLEVELAND, OH (December 6, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH-pictured) scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 69-55 loss to Kenyon College tonight in Gambier, Ohio. The Spartans (5-2) are off until December 16 when they host Bluffton College at 3:00 p.m.
A three-point field goal 13 seconds into the game by senior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) would prove to be Case’s only lead (3-0) of the game. Kenyon (2-4) junior guard Alisha Moreno then completed a 12-0 run with a three-pointer at the 14:33 mark to give the Lords an early nine-point advantage. Sophomore forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH) would bring the Spartans back to within one, 12-11, with a layup at 9:35, but the Lords would lead, 32-22, at the intermission. Case shot just 31.6 percent from the field and turned the ball over 12 times in the first 20 minutes.
Kenyon never trailed by anything less than 10 points in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field. The Lords biggest lead of the last 20 minutes was 21 points, 58-37, after a junior forward Anne Dugan layup with 5:50 left in the contest. Dugan finished the game with 17 points.
Spartan senior guard Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) and Martin added 11 points apiece.
