CASE 69, DENISON 47...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 18, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Dana Dempsey-pictured (Brooklyn, OH) led four Spartans in double digits with a game high 21 points as Case defeated Denison University, 69-47, in the championship game of the Franklin Savings Tip-Off Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dempsey was 6-of-10 from the field in the first half as the Spartans shot 51.6 percent from the field compared to Denison’s 27.6 percent. Dempsey finished the half with 15 points as Case led 41-22. The Spartans out-rebounded the Big Red, 21-16, in the first 20 minutes, and forced 13 turnovers.
The Spartans struggled in the second half, committing 11 turnovers of their own, and shooting just 38.5 percent from the field. Junior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) scored 10 points in the last 20 minutes to help Case, who out-rebounded Denison (1-1), 45-28, in the game, improve to 2-0 on the year.
Junior guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) added 14 points, and senior guard Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) had 11 points and a team high eight rebounds. Case travels to Baldwin Wallace College, Tuesday night, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
