WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2005-06

Case improves to 10-12 overall and 3-8 in the UAA while the Maroons drop to 16-6 and 5-6. The Spartans host the University of Rochester, currently ranked 22nd in the country, Friday in the Veale Center at 6:00 p.m.

After a 2-2 tie just thirty seconds (19:28) into the game, Chicago went on a 23-10 run to lead by 13, 25-12 at the 11:35 mark. Eight minutes later (3:47) Case senior guard Amber Hammell hit a three-pointer to cut the Maroons lead down to just two (33-31). Hammell finished with 11 points in the first half, but Chicago led at the half 41-34 on 60 percent (20-33) shooting from the field. Senior forward Susie Gutowski (Northampton, MA) had 12 points (6-of-7) for the Maroons in the first 20 minutes and finished the game with 12.

Hammell remained hot in the second half as she gave Case the lead 50-47 at 12:52 by making three consecutive baskets, the last two coming from behind the arc. Chicago regained the advantage (64-63) with under four minutes (3:45) left in the game on a senior forward Jenn Kaiser (San Diego, CA) three-pointer. Hammell tied the game up (67-67) with 34 seconds remaining on a free throw (1-of-2), but freshman guard Alex Leach would give the Maroons the lead again (68-67) with three seconds on the clock on a free throw (1-of-2). Then Horton banked in a jumper from the top right corner of the key at the buzzer to win the game for Case.

Senior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) grabbed a game high 10 rebounds for the Spartans and sophomore guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Springs, MD) led Chicago with 14 points.
