#3 WASHINGTON 77, CASE 47...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 9, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University shot just 27.3 percent from the field today as they fell at home to Washington University, currently ranked third in the country, 77-47 in a University Athletic Association contest .
The Spartans drop to 8-6 on the season and 1-2 in the UAA while Washington improves to 13-1 and 3-0. Case will travel to Pittsburgh this Friday night to face Carnegie Mellon University in another UAA contest at 6:00 p.m.
The Bears were on fire in the first half, shooting a whopping 66.7 percent from the field. Case jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, but were then outscored 44-16 the remainder of the second half to trail 45-18 at the break. Washington out-rebounded the Spartans, who shot just 25.9 percent from the field, 24-11 in the first half and 43-28 for the game.
Case continued to struggle shooting wise in the second half, making just 8-of-28 shots. The Bears turned the ball over 21 times in the game and the Spartans 19. The Spartans were led by sophomore guard LaVonne Sherald-pictured (Pickerington, OH), who had a team high eight points and freshman forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH), who had seven rebounds.
Washington had three players score double figures led by senior forward Danielle Beehler (Leawood, KS), who had a game high 20 points. Bear junior guard Sarah Schell (Lexington, KY) finished with 12 assists in the game.
