CASE 83, MUSKINGUM 71...
CLEVELAND, OH (December 30, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Ashley Horton-pictured (Akron, OH) recorded her seventh double-double of the season as the Spartans defeated visiting Muskingum College 83-71 tonight in the Veale Center. Horton scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds .
With the win, Case improves to 6-3 on the year while the Muskies drop to 2-9. The Spartans next travel to Wheeling Jesuit Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. game.
Case hit the boards in the first half out rebounding Muskingum 29-15. Horton had nine rebounds in the half and senior guard Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) had 13 of her team high 26 points. Hammell also had a double-double as she pulled down 12 rebounds. The Muskies shot just 31.3 percent from the field as they trailed 38-25 at the break.
Muskingum junior guard Elizabeth Guinsler (Zanesville, OH) scored 18 of her game high 29 points in last 20 minutes as the Muskies brought it within seven, 78-71 with 43 seconds remaining in the game. Case then hit five of six free throws down the stretch to secure their second straight win.
Hammell and Horton led four Spartans in double figures as junior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) added 14 points and Maria Jackson (Middlefield, OH) had 10 points off the bench. Junior forward Leah Miller (Findlay, OH) was the only other Muskie in double figures as she added 14 points.
