CASE 64, OHIO WESLEYAN 48...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 22, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH - pictured) recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points as the Spartans defeated visiting Ohio Wesleyan University 64-48 tonight in the Veale Center .
Case is off to their first 3-0 start since the 2001-02 season. Ohio Wesleyan drops to 0-3 on the year. The Spartans host Baldwin Wallace College, currently ranked 20 th in the country, Tuesday (Nov. 29) at 7:00 p.m.
Ohio Wesleyan made just 4 of 25 shots (16%), 2 of 18 from behind the arc, in the first 20 minutes as they trailed Case 33-16. Case junior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) scored 11 of her game high 18 points the first half, connecting on 4 of 7 from the field, including 3 of 4 three-pointers. Dempsey finished the game 7 of 13 from the field.
The Bishops continued to throw up long balls in the second half, finishing the game just 8 of 39 in three-point attempts. Case had a demanding 50-30 with over 13 minutes left in the game (13:23), but would score just 14 points in the rest of the way out, shooting just 25 percent from the field in the last half. The Spartans were out rebounded by Ohio Wesleyan 48-44 in the game.
Junior guard Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg, OH) led two Bishop players in double digits with 17 points. Case senior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH) added 7 boards.
