CASE 74, PSU BEHREND 59...
ERIE, PA (November 19, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University junior guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH - pictured) led three Spartan players in double digits this afternoon with a game high 18 points as Case defeated PSU-Behrend 74-59 in the championships game of the Behrend Tip-Off Tournament. The Spartans improve to 2-0 on the year while Behrend falls to 1-1 .
It was all Dempsey in the first half as she made 5 of 10 shots from the field (3-6 three-pointers) for 13 points. Case turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, but out rebounded the Lions 22-12 (44-20 game). The Spartans took the lead, 12-10, at the 15:05 mark in the first and never trailed the rest of the game.
Case finished the game shooting 48.3 percent, including 51.6 percent in the second half. Behrend shot just 38 percent from the field for the contest. The Lions had three players in double digits as well, led by Mays Brittany’s 15.
Spartan senior guard Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) added 17 points and senior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH) had a game high 12 rebounds. Hammell was named to the All-Tournament Team and Dempsey the Tournament’s MVP.
Case will host Ohio Wesleyan University this Tuesday night in the Veale Center at 6:00 p.m.
