CLEVELAND, OH (February 11, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH), a Regina graduate, had 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 17 points to lead the Spartans over the University of Chicago 77-49 tonight in University Athletic Association action at the Veale Center .
Case, who has won three of their last four, improves to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in the UAA while Chicago falls to 13-8 and 6-4. The Spartans will host Washington University (MO) this Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
Case sophomore guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH), a Brooklyn High School product, scored 12 of her game high 20 points (9-15) in the first half as the Spartans shot 52.9 percent (18-34) from the field and led 44-21 at the intermission. Case made 7 of 12 three pointers in the first 20 minutes and out rebounded the Maroons, who shot just 25.8 percent (8-31), 23-17.
Case never trailed by less than 20 points in the second half. They out rebounded Chicago 45-34 in the game, 34 of the Spartans rebounds came on the defensive end. The Maroons finished the evening shooting just 27.6 percent. They were led by junior forward Susie Gutowski's 17 points and 8 rebounds.
Spartans junior guard Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) added 14 points and junior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH) and freshman forward Ashley Horton (Akron , OH) grabbed 9 rebounds a piece.
