CASE 65, ROCHESTER 57 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 28, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University overcame a ten point halftime deficit tonight to defeat the visiting University of Rochester 65-57 in University Athletic Association action at the Veale Center . With the win, the Spartans snap a four game losing streak and improve to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the UAA. The Yellow Jackets drop to 8-8 and 1-5.
Case struggled from the field in the first half shooting just 28.2 percent (11-39) compared to Rochester 's 54.2 percent (13-24). The Spartans were also out rebounded 23-19 and trailed 36-26 at the half. Yellow Jacket senior center Ashley Latimer ( Brookeville , MD ) scored 11 of her game high 23 points in the first twenty minutes.
Case hit the boards in the second half, out rebounding Rochester 30-19 (46-42 in the game). Spartan junior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH), a Hawken product, grabbed 12 of her career/game high 19 boards in the last 20 minutes. Rowan added seven points. The Yellow Jackets led by four, 51-47, with just under six minutes (5:56) left in the game, but Case outscored them 18-6 down the stretch for the victory.
The Spartans had three players in double digits led by junior guard Amber Hammell's ( Parkersburg , WV ) 14. Senior guard Keesha Allen ( Cleveland , OH ), a Regina graduate, added 13 points and four steals. Rochester junior guard Jesse Graham ( Seattle , WA ) had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 12 points.
Case hosts Carnegie Mellon University this Sunday in the Veale Center at 3:00 p.m.
