#7 NYU 65, CASE 59 ...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 23, 2005) - Case Western Reserve University (6-9 overall, 1-4 UAA) junior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH), a Hawken product, recorded a double-double with a game high 15 rebounds and 10 points as the Spartans fell to New York University (14-2, 4-1) 65-59 in a University Athletic Association game at the Veale Center.
Although Case never led in the first half, the Spartans hung tough with the seventh ranked team in the country (Division III). Case freshman forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) scored eight of her 12 total points as the Violets led 23-22 at the break. NYU's Rachel Wojdowski scored 12 of her game 17 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Spartans came out shooting in the second half, outscoring New York 16-6 in the first six minutes to take a 38-29 lead. The Violets battled back and regained the lead for good at the 12:45 mark 39-38. Case shot 50 percent (14-28) from the field in the last 20 minutes and out rebounded NYU 20-16 (36-33 in the contest).
Spartan sophomore guard Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn , OH) added 14 points. Case will host the University of Rochester Friday night at the Veale Center at 6:00 p.m.
