WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2004

Case forced 12 Yellow Jacket turnovers in the first half (23 in the game) and took a 12 points lead, 39-27, into the intermission. Spartan senior guard Keesha Allen had four of her game high seven steals in the first 20 minutes. Allen also handed out seven assists, scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds in the contest.

Defiance outscored the Spartans 29 to 18 in the first 15 minutes of the second half to bring the game within one, 57-56 with 4:55 left, but Case held on to improve to 3-2 on the year. The Yellow Jackets, who shot 56.5 percent (13-23) from the field in the last 20 minutes, fall to 2-4. The Spartans shot just 35.3 percent (12-34) in the second half.

Case junior guard Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) added 16 points and freshman guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) had 11. Junior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH) had a team high eight rebounds. The Spartans host Wheeling Jesuit (NCAA Division II) this Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Defiance had two players in double digits. Senior guard Meta Gerding (Ottoville, OH) had a game high 22 points and junior forward Meghann Savard (St. Ignace, MI) had 21.
