CLEVELAND, OH (November 19, 2004) - Case Western Reserve University first year Head Coach Jacki Windon's career collegiate record stands at 1-0.
Windon, who came to Case this past August after two seasons as local Akron Hoban High School's head coach, and the Spartans knocked off Baldwin Wallace College 67-63 in overtime tonight in the first round of the Greater Cleveland Classic at Notre Dame of Ohio. Baldwin Wallace entered the game ranked 17 th in the county (USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Poll).
Case trailed the Yellow Jackets 22-28 at the intermission after just shooting 26.3% from the field (10-38). The Spartans bounced back in the second half to outscore Baldwin Wallace 34-28. Senior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH), a local Regina High School product, hit a jumper with four seconds left in regulation, after a junior forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH - Hawken) steal, to tie the game at 56-56 and send it into overtime.
Allen finished the night with a game high 23 points, 10 steals, and five assists. Rowan grabbed 10 rebounds and added six points. Spartans freshman forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH - Hoban) grabbed a game high 15 rebounds in her collegiate debut and junior guard Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) scored 16 points.
After falling behind 59-58 in overtime, Case outscored the Yellow Jackets nine to four in the last three minutes of the contest to win their season opener. The Spartans plays host Notre Dame tomorrow in the championship game at 4:00 p.m.
