WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2003

CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) scored a game high 15 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Spartans (10-15, 6-8 UAA) defeated the Emory University Eagles (9-16, 3-11 UAA) in their season finale by a score of 55-52 in Horsburgh Gymnasium at the Veale Center. Senior Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) added nine points and nine rebounds for the Spartans.

The first half was a defensive struggle between the two teams. The Spartans hit 10 of their 30 shot attempts for 33.3% while the Eagles connected 11 of their 31 attempts for 35.5% as Emory took a 26-24 lead into the half. Case held a 22-20 rebounding edge over Emory in the first 20 minutes. Senior Victoria Vondrak (Willoughby, OH) pulled down six of her team high nine rebounds in the opening half.

In the second half, the defense efforts continued as the Eagles shot 36.4% (12-33) compared to only 28.6% (10-35) for the Spartans. However, it was the relentless pressure of the Spartans that was the difference in the game. Case forced nine Emory turnovers in the second half. The Spartans also out rebounded Emory 27-21 in the final half. Case hit 8 of their 12 free throws in the second half to earn the victory.

Amber Hammell (Parkersburg, WV) added eight points and eight rebounds for Case while Carmen Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) put in eight rebounds and six rebounds. The Eagles were led by 15 points and seven rebounds by Lynn Oberschmidt (Cincinnati, OH) as well as ten points and a game high 11 rebounds by Stephanie Seibert (Mason, OH).
