CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) scored a team high 14 points and her younger sister, sophomore forward Carmen Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH), grabbed a team high 10 rebounds as the Spartans (8-15, 4-8 UAA) fell to the University of Rochester 77-54 tonight in New York.
The Yellowjackets (19-4, 8-4 UAA), who are currently ranked 15th in the country, were tops in the country until Case knocked them down from their number one ranking back on January 25th with a 82-78 upset in Cleveland.
Case could not buy a shot from the field in the first half, only connecting on eight of 37 (21.6%). Rochester was 15 of 32 (46.9%), including four of seven (57.1%) from behind the arc, outscoring the Spartans 25-10 in the last nine minutes of the half to take a 44-21 lead into the intermission.
Both teams were cold from the field in the second half. Case improved slightly 11-36 for 30.6 percent and the Yellowjackets 10-29 for 34.5 percent. Rochester out rebounded the Spartans 26-20 in the last 20 minutes and 52-41 in the game, but turn the ball over 16 times compared to Case's 12.
Kelly Wescott had a double-double for the Yellowjackets with a game high 11 rebounds and 12 points. Rochester's Erika Smith led all scorers with 17. The Spartans travel to Carnegie Mellon this Sunday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
NOTABLE … Case senior guard Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) became only the seventh player in Spartan women's basketball history to record 1,000 career points by scoring five points in the first. She needed four points to reach the milestone and ended the game with six, bringing her career total to 1,002.
