WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2003

CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Andrea Haylett (Mantua, OH) had 11 points and a team high nine rebounds as the Spartans (8-14, 4-7 UAA) fell to the Maroons (9-13, 4-7 UAA) of Chicago by a final score of 49-68 at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Center. Angel Korer (Phoeniz, AR) had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Maroons.

The Spartans trailed 18-32 at the half as they only connected on seven of 31 attempts for the floor (including all eight three point attempts) for 22.6% while Chicago shot 40% (12-30). Case was also guilty of 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes which led to 13 points for the Maroons. Chicago also held a 22-21 rebounding edge over the Spartans.

Case opened the second half on an 8-2 run to cut the Maroon led to eight, but Chicago would outscore the Spartans 34-23 in the last 16 minutes to take home the victory. In the second half, Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) scored 11 of her team high 12 points. The Spartans continued to shoot poorly in the second half. They shot just 26.5% (9-34) and held Chicago to 8-24 from the floor for 33.3%. However, the Maroons were perfect (18-18) from the line in the final 20 minutes.

Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH) added eight points and five boards for the Spartans. Korry Schwanz (Menominee, MI) added 14 points for the Maroons while Paula Lepka (Freeport, IL) also pulled down eight rebounds.

The Spartans travel to Rochester on Friday with a tip-off scheduled for 6:00 pm.
