WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2003

CLEVELAND, OH – Case Western Reserve University junior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH) and senior guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) each had 14 points as the Spartans (8-13, 4-6 UAA) fell to Washington University (MO) (18-3, 8-2 UAA) 58-76 in Horsburgh Gymnasium at the Veale Center.

The Bears (ranked 8th in the nation in D-III) shot extremely well in the game as they hit on 31-57 shots for 54.4% from the field while the Spartans only shot for 36.2% (21-58). Washington also kept Case from running holding the Spartans to zero fast break points.

In the first half, Washington took the early lead 34-32 behind strong shooting and interior play. However, the Spartans would keep it close behind strong efforts by Allen and Carmen Rowan (Richmond Heights, OH) who had eight of her 12 points in the opening 20 minutes. Washington held a slight edge on the boards with 19 compared to Case’s 17. Danielle Beehler had nine points and four rebounds at the half for the Bears.

Washington pulled away in the second half as they continued to dominate inside. In the second half, the Bears out rebounded Case 22-13. They also shot 56.3% (18-32) from the floor while the Spartans only shot 32.1 % (9-28) in the final 20 minutes. Hallie Hutchens had 14 of her game high 23 points and eight of her game high 10 rebounds in the half. Jasmine Rowan scored seven of her 14 in the second half.

Andrea Haylett (Mantua, OH) added five rebounds for the Spartans. Kelly Maning added 18 points for the Bears.

The Spartans host the University of Chicago Maroons on Sunday, tip-off is 3:00 pm.
