WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2003

ST. LOUIS, MO – Case Western Reserve University’s (6-8, 2-1 UAA) four game win streak was snapped toady by the number seven ranked team in the nation (NCAA Div. III) Washington University (13-1, 3-0 UAA) as the Bears defeated the Spartans 84-58 in a University Athletic Association contest at the WU Field House.

Despite only shooting 37.5 percent (12-32) from the field compared to Washington’s 51.9 percent (14-27) in the first half the Spartans managed to only trail 30-38 at the break. Case junior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH), a Regina graduate, scored 13 of her team high 18 points in the first 20 minutes, connecting on six of 10 shots from the field.

The Bears hit the boards in the second half out rebounding the Spartans 25-15 (43-31 in the game). Case continued to struggle from the field in the last 20 minutes only connecting on eight of 28 shots (28.6%), while Washington shot above fifty percent again (17-33, 51.5% - 51.7% for the game).

Senior guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH), a Hawken product, added 13 points and senior guard Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) 10. Sophomore guard Shawna Dinger (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Bear sophomore guard Kelly Manning (Nashville, TN) lead all scorers with 23 points.

Case host Carnegie Mellon University this Friday at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Center at 6:00 p.m.
