CHICAGO, IL - The Case Western Reserve University (6-7, 2-0 UAA) women's basketball team extended their win streak to four games and improved to 2-0 in the University Athletic Association tonight in the windy city as they defeated the University of Chicago (4-8, 0-2) 66-62 in the Ratner Athletics Center.
Case junior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH), a Regina graduate, led the way for the Spartans with 17 points, nine assists, nine steals, and five rebounds.
Allen had 10 points and seven steals in the first half alone as Case led 29-23 at the break. The Spartans forced the Maroons to turn the ball over 17 times (14 by steals) in the first 20 minutes as both teams shot poorly from the field (Case 34.2%, Chicago 36.4%).
Case continued to shoot poorly in the second half (35.1%, 34.7% in the game), but out rebounded the Maroons 28-20 (48-43 in the game) and forced seven more Chicago turnovers (23 in the game). The Maroons brought it within one, 63-62 with 22 seconds left, but the Spartans held on to the victory.
Case senior guard Jasmine Rowan (Richmond Hts., OH), a Hawken product, added 14 points and senior guard Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) 11. Sophomore guard Shawna Dinger (Fort Lauderdale, FL) grabbed a game/career high 11 rebounds.
Freshman guard Korry Schwanz (Menominee, MI) had a game high 19 points to lead Chicago.
Case travels to Washington University in St. Louis this Sunday for game two of their UAA double header weekend.
