ATLANTA, GA – Case Western Reserve University (4-7, 1-0 UAA) senior guard Angie Zeuch (Cincinnati, OH) led three Spartans in double digits with a game high 17 points as they defeated Emory University (5-4, 0-1 UAA) 54-45 in their University Athletic Association opener on the road.
Zeuch (10 rebounds) along with sophomore forward Andrea Haylett (Mantua, OH) posted double-doubles on the day. Haylett had 12 points and a game/career high 15 rebounds. Junior guard Keesha Allen (Cleveland, OH) finished with 10 points.
Case made just six of 38 shots from the field (15.8%) in the first half and trailed the Eagles 24-20 at the break. The Spartans forced 12 Emory turnovers and went to the free throw line 12 times (7-12) compared to their two (1-2).
Case shot poorly from the field in the second half as well (28.1%, 9-32) but better than the Eagles(24%, 6-25). The Spartans, who took a 30-28 lead at the 13:46 mark and never trailed again, forced Emory to turn the ball over 11 more times in the last 20 minutes (23 in the game) and out rebounded them 27-20 (51-43 in the game) to win their second straight.
Freshman guard Beth Bergmann (Oconomowoc, WI) led the Eagles with 14 points. Case travels to Westminster this Monday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
