WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2003

DEFIANCE, OH – Case Western Reserve University (1-4) shot just 24.3% from the field tonight as they fell to Defiance College (4-0) 48-90 in a non conference game on the road.

Case freshman guard and Brooklyn graduate Dana Dempsey (Brooklyn, OH) led the Spartans with 11 points while sophomore forward Andrea Haylett (Mantua, OH) grabbed a team high seven rebounds.

Case made just 5 of 32 shots from the field (15.6%) and had 10 turnovers while the Lady Jackets shot a whopping 62.5% from the field (20-32) and out rebounded the Spartans 27 to 19 in the first half as they led 51-15.

Dempsey scored 10 of her team high 11 points in the second half as Defiance cooled off, but it was too late as the Spartans would drop their fourth straight. Case freshman forward and Boardman product Lauren Craig (Youngstown, OH) added eight points.

Defiance had three players in the teens led by junior forward Kelly Vanderhorst’s (Celina, OH) 16 points.

The Spartans travel to the Bethany College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
