SWIMMING—2007-08

Janine Machala (North Olmsted, OH-pictured) did a fantastic job representing the Spartans in the 200-yard breaststroke event. The junior touched the wall in 2:28.47 and recorded the third fastest 200-yard breaststroke swim in Case Western Reserve history, just seconds behind former Spartan’s Susan Beatty and Emily Allegretti. Marine Gu (Longwood, FL) placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle at 54:43.

Case tallied four NCAA “B” cut times over the weekend and now waits to see which team members will travel to the 2008 NCAA National Championships on March 20th-22nd.

Senior Drew Kouri (Marysville, OH) swam his heart out this weekend, as the leader of the Spartans should qualify for nationals with his finish of 58.30 in the 100-yard breaststroke event. Sophomore Kevin Alland (Buffalo Grove, IL), freshman Chris Marquiss (Solon, OH) and the men’s 200-yard medley relay team all have a legitimate chance to swim at nationals.

Spartan women tallied 791 points over the weekend, while the men, 677. Emory men and women stole the show, as both programs won their 10th consecutive UAA titles.
