CLEVELAND, OH (January 12, 2008) - Fresh from a trip back from Florida, sun-burnt and tanned Case Western Reserve University men’s swimming and diving team was defeated by 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 137-68 in a University Athletic Association [UAA] conference duel meet at the Veale Natatorium in Cleveland, OH.
Pacing the Spartans was the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Drew Swartz (San Diego, CA), senior Drew Kouri (Marysville, OH-pictured) sophomore Robbie Browning (Grosse Pointe, MI) and freshman Chris Marquiss (Solon, OH) finishing first overall with a time of 1:38.40.
Browning struck gold twice in the afternoon, capping off a great day with a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in a sizzling time of 53.04
Marquiss was also victorious twice against the Tartans, with a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.97).
Ironically, through event 16, both Spartan teams’ scores were identical with Carnegie Mellon leading 93-57.
The Spartans travel to Ohio Northern University next Friday evening for a duel meet beginning at 6:00 p.m.
