CLEVELAND, OH (November 30th, 2007) - Day-two of the College of Wooster Invitational was efficient for Case Western Reserve University’s men’s swimming and diving team.
The Spartans won three individual events and placed extremely well in relay competitions.
Junior John Somerville (Bloomfield Hills, MI) won the 400-yard individual medley at 4:17.68, just a half-second ahead of sophomore teammate Kevin Alland (Buffalo Grove, IL).
Senior Drew Kouri (Marysville, OH-pictured) was the lone swimmer to crack the one-minute mark in the 100-yard breaststroke event, as the Spartan placed first overall with a sizzling finish of 58.75, an NCAA "B-Cut" time.
Sophomore Drew Swartz (San Diego, CA) defeated Ian Pellerin of Ohio Wesleyan by .13 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke event, to clinch the gold, with a stunning finish of 53.36.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Swartz, Somerville, Kouri and freshman Chris Marquiss (Solon, OH) lost to first-place Wooster by a mere .05 seconds. Wooster’s top-relay team won it in 1:35.67, while the Spartans finished their race in 1:35.72.
