CARNEGIE MELLON 166, CASE 112...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 14, 2006) - Case junior John Erickson - pictured (Massillon, OH) and freshman Seth Hazlett (Leechburg, PA) both claimed individual first place finishes as the Case Western Reserve swimming and diving team lost a dual match to Carnegie Mellon 166-112 at the Veale Natatorium this afternoon. 
Carnegie Mellon, who finished third at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championships, took home first place in all but two individual events. Erickson won the 50 yard freestyle for the Spartans with a time of 22.39. In the 200 yard butterfly, Case's Hazlett was victorious by nearly six seconds as he cruised to first place in 2:01.89. Hazlett had another solid finish with a second place in the 100 yard butterfly in 54.38.
Also swimming well for Case was senior Justin Daggett (Bradford, PA) who claimed two second place finishes. He was second in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:46.64 and was also runner-up in the 100 yard freestyle in 48.97. Spartan freshman An-Shih Lee (Woodbury, NY) took second place as he swam the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:02.45. Another Case freshman, John Somerville (Bloomfield Hills, MI), took second in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:22.38.
Case will be busy next weekend as they host a dual meet with Denison University on Friday followed by a quad meet at SUNY Fredonia with Rochester and Ithaca on Saturday.
