CARNEGIE MELLON 115, CASE 87...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 8, 2005) - This afternoon in Pittsburgh, PA, the Case Western Reserve men's swimming and diving team lost to host Carnegie Mellon University 115-87 in a dual meet. The Spartans swam well as they were facing the third place team from last year's NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
Swimming in their home state of Pennsylvania, Case swimmers Justin Daggett (Bradford, PA) and Bobby Malinoski (Verona, PA) claimed the only individual first place finishes for the Spartans. Daggett took the top spot in the 500 yard freestyle with his time of 4:54.84 while Malinoski claimed first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.58.
Other top finishers for Case were John Erickson (Massillon, OH) with a second place in the 50 yard freestyle (22.28) and John Keltz (Bradford, PA) with his runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.45).
Case will be competing in their home pool next weekend when they host a tri-meet with SUNY Fredonia and Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night and the University of Rochester comes to town Saturday afternoon for a dual meet.
