OBERLIN INVITATIONAL...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 24, 2007) - The Spartans ran well at the Oberlin College Invitational as several athletes placed in multiple events.
Senior Pat Fiduccia (Rochester, NY) took third in both the 55-meter hurdles (8.98) and the triple jump (1-00.25). Sophomore Derrick Moore (Cleveland, OH) won the high jump (6.00 meters) and finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.60). Moore’s teammates, junior Zach Polk (Marion, OH-pictured), and freshman Obina Nwanaa (Maumee, OH), finished second (5-08.00) and third (5-06.00) in the high jump. Nwanaa also placed third in the long jump (6.00), and second in the triple jump (1-00.50).
In the men’s 3000-meter run, Case swept the top three spots. Sophomore Michael Petro (Cincinnati, OH-pictured) won the event (8:58.40) with sophomore Dominic Smith (New Richmond, OH) (8:58.40-second) and freshman Austin Schmidt (Lexington, OH) (9:03.50-third) finishing right behind him.
Three other Spartans took second in their event. Senior Stephen Hrinda (Fairview, PA) in the one-mile run (4.29.50), senior Chris Anderson (Centerville, VA) in the 400-meter dash (53.28) and senior Paul Hannen (Seville, OH) in the shot put (1-02.25). Junior David Jeffries (Nordonia, OH) placed third in the shot put (1-02.00) and Mike Vaughn third in the men’s 800-meter run (2.04.74).
The Spartans will be action this week at the UAA conference meet at Brandeis University March 2-3.
