MEN'S BASKETBALL—2007-08


CLEVELAND, OH (February 17, 2008) -
Senior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL– pictured) scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, as the Case Western Reserve University men’s basketball team fell 84-56 to the Maroons from the University of Chicago in a University Athletic Association contest in Adelbert Gymnasium.

The Spartans (7-15, 0-11 UAA) will make their final road trip next weekend when they head to Rochester to face the No. 13 Yellowjackets on Feb. 22 and on Feb. 24 when they head to Pittsburgh to face the Tartans from Carnegie Mellon.

Both teams had trouble finding a rhythm early on, as Case shot just 23.5 percent from the field in the first ten minutes, while Chicago shot 26.3 percent. The Maroons (15-7, 8-3 UAA) took a 17-9 lead with 9:58 remaining after a Nate Hainje scored his ninth point of the game on a mid-range jumper. The Maroons nailed eight three pointers in the first 20 minutes, while the Spartans made just two.

Conrad had a game-high 12 points at intermission, as the Spartans were down, 42-25.

It was all Chicago in the second half, as Adam Machones’ three-pointer with 5:26 remaining gave the Maroons a 24 point advantage. Chicago shot 43.8 percent from beyond the arc in the game (14-of-32), while the Spartans shot just 22.2 percent from three-point land.

Freshman center Eric Duerr (Gibsonia, PA) was perfect from the field, scoring a career-high 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting, while sophomore forward Anthony Durr finished with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including two three-pointers.
