#9 BRANDEIS 90, CASE 75...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 1, 2008) - Senior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL – pictured) double-doubled for the fifth time this season, as the Case Western Reserve University men’s basketball team fell 90-75 to No. 9 ranked Brandeis University in Cleveland.
With the Spartans down 23-21 with 6:51 remaining, freshman Eric Duerr (Gibsonia, PA) brought his team within one after splitting a pair of free throws. Junior center Rob Skuski’s (Russell, OH) jumper with 4:12 remaining knotted the game at 28-apiece, while senior center Conrad’s lay-up with 3:28 left gave Case its first lead of the game at 32-31.
Skuski led all scorers with 12 points at intermission and a game-high six rebounds, while Brandeis’ Joe Coppens drilled four three-pointers in the first half en route to a team-high 11 points, as his team had a 39-36 lead.
The Spartans took a one point lead early in the second half, as Alex Hildebrant’s (Fairlawn, OH) baseline lay-up gave his team a 41-40 advantage. However, the Judges would take over the game, as Kevin Olson’s three pointer with 9:21 remaining would give Brandeis a 64-54 lead.
The Spartans shot 48.3 percent from the field in the loss, while the Judges shot 45.6 percent, including 12 three-pointers.
Conrad finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Skuski finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. The Judges had four players in double-figures, as Olson led all-scorers with a game-high 26 points.
The Spartans will be at home again on Sunday when they host the Violets from New York University. Tip is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
