COLBY-SAWYER 92, CASE 80...
CLEVELAND, OH (December 30, 2007) - The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team finished fourth in the Tampa Bay Shootout, as the Spartans fell 92-80 to Chargers from Colby-Sawyer College this afternoon in the third-place game in Tampa Bay, Fla.
The Spartans (7-4) couldn't hold off the Chargers' three-point barrage in the first half, as CSC's Jon Chaloux and Dave Rosso combined for seven three pointers in the first 20 minutes, putting their team up 55-26 at intermission. The Spartans shot just 23.1 percent in the first half, as the team made just 2-of-13 shots from beyond the arc.
The Spartans would battle back in the second half, as senior guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO – pictured) and junior forward Brad Sutton (Findlay, OH) brought the team back from a 29 point deficit, bringing the Spartans within two points with 5:32 remaining in the game.
However, it wouldn't be enough, as the Chargers would seal the victory down the stretch, as Duncan Szeliga scored a game-high 31 points to give his team the victory and give the Spartans their fourth loss of the season.
Young finished with a team-high 24 points on 6-of-16 shooting, while Sutton scored 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting. Junior center Rob Skuski (Russell, OH) scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Spartans.
The Spartans are off until Jan. 12 when they open up their University Athletic Association schedule on the road against the Eagles from Emory University. Tip is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
