CLEVELAND, OH (November 25, 2007) - The Case Western Reserve University men’s basketball team improved to 4-1 on the year today with a 74-70 victory over Catholic University in the championship game of the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
Senior guard Brandon Bradford (Detroit, MI-pictured) was named the tournament MVP. Bradford had nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists against Catholic (2-2) and 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in a 78-68 win over Adrian College Friday.
Case Western Reserve junior guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) paced the Spartans in the first half with 15 points (17 in the game), which included making five-of-six three-pointers. Case Western Reserve began the game one-of-seven from the field, but a Young three-pointer at 7:17 gave them an 11-point advantage, 29-18. The Spartans led 43-34 at the break. 
Catholic (2-2) cut the lead to one, 59-58, on a made three-pointer by Danny Quinn with 6:36 left in the game, but junior forward Brad Sutton’s (Findlay, OH) six points in the remaining minutes helped Case Western Reserve win its third straight. Sutton tallied 13 points and finished six-of-ten from the field.
Spartan senior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) had 16 points and was named to the All-Tournament team and freshman guard Kevin Herring (Blacklick, OH) scored 14 poinits. D.J. Johnson led the Cardinals with 16.
Adrian College defeated Mount Union College, 73-72, in the consolation game. Case Western Reserve hosts Oberlin College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
