CASE 88, ALMA 69...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 16, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University senior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL - pictured) recorded a double-double in the Spartans’ 88-69 season-opening win against Alma College tonight in game two of the Case Alumni Association Tip-Off Tournament. Conrad scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Earlham College defeated Lake Erie College 87-84 in game one and will face Case Western Reserve in the championship game tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. Alma will face Lake Erie in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m.
The Spartans shot 58.6 percent from the field in the first half as junior guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) scored 12 of his 18 points by hitting four-of-five shots from behind the arch. Young also had a game-high five assists. Alma outrebounded Case Western Reserve 22-17 in the first 20 minutes, but turn the ball over seven times and trailed 44-31 at the break.
The second half was all Spartans. Freshman guard Kevin Herring (Blacklick, OH) hit a three-pointer at the 9:30 mark to give Case Western Reserve its biggest lead [23 points] of the night, 69-46. Herring finished with 10 points and three assists in his collegiate debut. Sophomore forward Anthony Durr (Columbus, OH) grabbed seven rebounds for the Spartans.
Jordan Redditt led three Alma players in double figures with 18.
