BRANDEIS 56, CASE 51...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 18, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University lost another close home game, falling 56-51 to Brandeis University today in a University Athletic Association home game.
Case's final lead of the first half (10-9) came with 15:27 remaining, when junior forward Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) connected on a jumper. When the clock read 7:09, the Judges built their largest lead of the half (28-14) on a layup by freshman guard Andre Roberson. Brandeis junior forward Stephen Hill's jumper put the Judges' lead back up to 14 (32-18) at the 5:38 mark. The Spartans (4-20, 0-13 UAA) finished the half with a 8-0 run, culminating with sophomore guard Steve Young's (Saint Louis, MO) free throw with no time on the clock, to make it a 32-26 Judges lead at halftime.
Brandeis junior forward Steve DeLuca's three-pointer gave the Judges their biggest lead of the second half (40-26) with 15:41 to go. Junior center Rob Skuski's (Russell, OH - pictured) jumper at the 10:09 mark brought the Brandeis lead down to just six. Case whittled the Brandeis (18-6, 8-5) advantage to four (53-49) on a layup by senior forward Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH). Another layup by Bradford pulled the Spartans to within four (55-51), again, but it was too great a deficit to overcome with just four seconds left.
Conrad and Skuski led all Spartans with 14 and 10 points, respectively. DeLuca led Brandeis with a game-high 22 points to go along with his nine rebounds.
Case travels to Atlanta to play Emory on Saturday.
