#20 NEW YORK 65, CASE 47...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 16, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University suffered a 65-47 defeat to 20th-ranked New York University tonight in a University Athletic Association home game.
Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL - pictured) put Case (4-19, 0-12) up 2-0 with a made jumper at 18:45, the Spartans' only lead of the game. The Violets' largest lead of the first half came at the 14:23 mark on senior forward Daniel Falcon's layup. Case's 7-0 run to tie the game at 10 culminated with junior center Rob Skuski's (Russell, OH) layup at 12:16. New York (18-5, 7-5) then held the lead for over eight minutes, but sophomore guard Steve Young's (Saint Louis, MO) layup with 3:52 remaining tied the game for the fourth time (23-23). The Violets took a 28-25 lead into halftime.
Junior guard Brandon Bradford (Detroit, MI) sunk a three-pointer at the 18:43 mark in the second half to cut New York's lead to six. Bradford connected on another shot from beyond the arc to pull Case to within 10 (43-33) at 14:56. When the clock read 8:04, Violets senior forward Chael Clark's layup completed a 12-4 New York run to make it 55-37. The Violets led by 18, their largest lead of the game, three more times. New York shot 51.7% in the second half, while Case shot only 26.9%.
Conrad scored a game-high 19 points, while Young added 13. Violets senior center Jason Boone recorded a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).
Case hosts Brandeis on Sunday at 12 p.m.
