ROCHESTER 84, CASE 43...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 26, 2007) - Sophomore guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO-pictured) had a game-high 19 points in Case Western Reserve University’s 43-84 University Athletic Association loss at the University of Rochester. It was Young’s 11th double-figure scoring performance of the season.
Rochester (12-5, 3-3) junior center Jon Onyiriuka scored the first two baskets of the game to push the Yellowjackets ahead 4-0. After Rochester pushed its lead to 8-3 at the 16:33 mark, junior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) brought Case (4-13, 0-6) back within one (8-7) with consecutive baskets at 16:02 and 15:37. The Yellowjackets went on a 30-9 run to end the half with a 38-16 lead. The Spartans were out-rebounded 17-9 in the first 20 minutes and turn the ball over 14 times.
Sophomore guard Max Kaplan gave Rochester its biggest lead of the game, 72-26, with a pair of free throws at the 9:22 mark in the second half. Case freshman forward Steve Martin (Bedford, OH) had six points in the half and eight in the game. Onyiriuka and junior guard Robert Dominiak scored 14 points each to lead Rochester, who shot 58 percent on the night.
The Spartans will travel to Pittsburgh Sunday to face Carnegie Mellon University at 12:00 p.m.
