CLEVELAND, OH (January 12, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University junior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL-pictured) led the Spartans in points scored (14) and rebounds (8) in a 73-56 University Athletic Association loss to visiting Washington University (MO).
Washington (11-1, 2-0 UAA) jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the 18:38 mark and then took a 15-point advantage, 19-4, on junior forward Troy Ruths’ layup at 14:42. Case (4-9, 0-2) went on a 17-5 run and cut its deficit to three, 24-21, when sophomore guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) made a three-pointer with 6:18 left in the first half. The Bears, however, on 64.3 percent shooting from the field, built their lead back up to 40-25 at the break.
Washington, currently ranked 16th in the country, spent the second half padding its lead. The Spartans faced their greatest deficit of the game (28 points, 64-36) with 9:28 left in the second half when Washington sophomore forward Tyler Nading hit a jumper. The Bears, who won their eighth straight, shot 43.8% from three-point range in the contest. Junior center Rob Skuski (Russell, OH) added four points and seven rebounds for Case. Ruths led Washington with a game-high 25 points.
The Spartans will host the University of Chicago on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
