GROVE CITY 65, CASE 57...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 3, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University shot just 31.1 percent from the field in a 65-57 loss tonight at Grove City College. Sophomore guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO-pictured) led the Spartans with 12 points, and junior center Rob Skuski (Russell, OH) added 11 points and five rebounds.
Case (4-7) only led once in the first half as they shot just 26.7 percent from the field. Senior forward Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) hit a three-pointer at the 8:17 mark to put the Spartans up 19-18. Grove City (5-6) would outscore Case 18-7 in the remainder of the half to take a ten-point lead, 36-26, into the intermission.
The closest the Spartans would get in the second half was seven points, 40-33, when junior guard Brandon Bradford (Detroit, MI) hit a layup at the 14:58 mark. Bradford finished the contest with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Wolverines pushed their lead to 17, 57-40, with 9:07 left in the game on a Ryan Gerber layup.
Ryan Gibson led three Grove City players in double figures with a game-high 13 points. Case out-rebounded Grove City 45-38 and both teams turned the ball over 13 times. The Spartans open-up University Athletic Association play this Saturday at home against Emory University (12:00 p.m.).
