MEN'S BASKETBALL—2006-07

Juniata (4-6) hit the first four baskets of the game to jump out to an 8-0 lead at the 17:54 mark. Case (4-6) answered with five straight baskets of their own as senior Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) finished off a three-point play with a free throw to give the Spartans a 10-8 lead at 14:11. The game would remain close until Case, who led 31-30 with 3:26 left, ended the half with a 9-0 run and led 40-30 at the intermission.

Case pushed their lead to 18 points, 58-40, on a layup from senior forward Alan Curry (Shaker Heights, OH) at the 10:44 mark in the second half. The closest the Eagles would come was within eight points, 62-54, when senior guard Aaron Chamberlain hit a layup with 5:56 left in the game. Chamberlain finished with a team-high 16 points. The Spartans out-rebounded Juniata 47-31 and shot 47.2 percent from the field in the contest.

Sophomore guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) added 15 points for Case. Conrad was named to the all-tournament team. He scored 39 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in two games. The Spartans travel to Grove City College January 3 for a 7:00 p.m. game.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME … Defiance College defeated Illinois College 76-71 in the championship game of the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament. Freshman forward Nick Sales recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Defiance. Sales was named the tournament’s MVP with 39 points and 21 rebounds in two games.
