THIEL 66, CASE 62...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 18, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University junior center Mason Conrad-pictured (Tarpon Springs, FL) had 16 points and five rebounds to lead the Spartans in a 66-62 loss to Thiel College in the consolation game of the Case Alumni Association Tip-Off Tournament. Case will play Hiram College, Wednesday, on the road at 7:30 p.m.
Despite shooting just 30.4 percent from the field in the first half, the Spartans managed to go into the intermission tied with Thiel, who shot 43.5 percent, 23-23. Case led by five-points, 19-14, with 7:24 on the clock, but the Tomcats outscored them 9-4 in the remainder of the half.
Thiel sophomore guard Brandon Mirizio (West Middlesex, PA) scored 14 of his game high 21 points in the second half to lead the Tomcats (1-1). The Spartans, who trailed by as many as 11 in the last 20 minutes, brought it within two points, 63-61, with 11 seconds left, but lost their second straight.
Case sophomore guard Steve Young (St. Louis, MO) added 16 points, and senior guard Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) had 10 points.
