CLEVELAND, OH (November 17, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University senior guard Matt Cannan-pictured shot 7-of-12 from the field for a team high 16 points and added seven rebounds in the Spartans’ 73-65 loss to Medaille College tonight in game two of the Case Alumni Association Tip-Off Tournament.
Marietta College defeated Thiel College 75-59 in game one. Case (0-1) and Thiel (0-1) will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m., and Medaille (1-0) will face Marietta (1-0) in the championship game at 4:00 p.m.
Case’s biggest lead of the first half was five points, 22-17, with 5:20 left on the clock. Junior center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) led the Spartans with nine points in the first 20 minutes as Case led, 32-29, at the intermission. Conrad finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Spartans led 57-55 with just under five minutes (4:50) remaining in the game, but Medaille outscored them, 18-8, down the stretch. Junior guard Scott Hack (Angola, IN) was one of three Mavericks in double digits with a game high 20 points.
