MEN'S BASKETBALL—2005-06

The Spartans battled back from as many as 13 points down in the second half to trail by just four points, 68-64, with 1:39 remaining in the game. NYU’s Jason Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY), who leads the UAA in rebounding (9.8 rpg), blocked shots (2.44 bpg), and field goal percentage (70.8%), led the Violets down the stretch as he finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Boone hit 6-of-8 shots from the field and was almost perfect at the free throw line, making 7-of-8 attempts.

Case played well in the first half but NYU surged out to a 38-28 halftime lead behind 6-of-12 shooting from three-point range. The Violets' junior Michael DeCorso (Freehold, NJ) was on fire in the first half as he made 4-of-5 shots from behind the arc to lead all scorers with 12 first period points. The Spartans shot 46.4% (13-28) from the field in the first half and were led by seven points from senior guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH).

In the second stanza, Case shot just 33% (11-33) from the field and converted on just 12-of-19 free throws attempts. NYU hit 8-of-20 field goal attempts for 40%. From the line, the Violets were 16-21, which helped to protect their lead. For the game, NYU had a 39-34 rebounding advantage. Oren had 16 of his game high 22 points in the final half.

Also for the Spartans, sophomore center Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) had a double-double as he added 14 points and 11 rebounds. For the Violets, sophomore Michael Magee (Balwyn, Victoria, Australia) had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Basford (Flemington, NJ), a junior guard, added 17 points for NYU.

Case continues Throwback Weekend as they will wear jerseys on Sunday honoring the Case Institute of Technology as they battle Brandeis at 12:00.
