#24 NEW YORK UNIVERSITY 78, CASE 49...
NEW YORK, NY (January 29, 2006) - New York University, ranked 24th in Division III, shot 57.4% from the field as they beat the Case Western Reserve Spartans 78-49 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game this afternoon. Case was led by sophomore Mason Conrad - pictured (Tarpon Springs, FL) with 13 points. The Spartans drop to 10-8 overall and 2-5 in the UAA with the loss while NYU improves to 16-2 and 5-2 in the UAA. 
The Violets, who were led by 15 first half points from Jason Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY), built a 38-17 lead at the end of the first period. NYU shot 60% (15-25) from the field in the first 20 minutes, with Boone hitting seven of his eight attempts. The Violets used a 13-2 run in the first 7:30 to take the early lead. Case meanwhile was 7-for-30 (23.3%) from the field in the first half. Conrad had a team-high 11 first half points for the Spartans.
The second half saw more of the same as NYU continued to shoot well from the field. The Violets hit 55.2% of their second half shots and built their lead to 40 points, 76-36, at the 6:04 mark. Michael DeCorso (Freehold, NJ) led the way for NYU in the second half as he scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the final 20 minutes. Boone finished with 16 while Matt Basford (Flemington, NJ) and Jared Kildare (Mount Vernon, NY) each had 10 points for the Violets. Kildare also added nine assists in the win.
Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH) scored nine points and Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) contributed eight points in the Case loss. Sophomore Brandon Bradford (Detroit, MI) led Case with six rebounds in the game. The Spartans will face NYU again on Friday night in Cleveland, Ohio as part of the Throwback Weekend at Adelbert Gymnasium.
