BRANDEIS 81, CASE 64...
WALTHAM, MA (January 27, 2006) - Case Western Reserve sophomore Mason Conrad - pictured (Tarpon Springs, FL) led Case with 14 points as the Spartans fell to the Brandeis University Judges 81-64 in Waltham, MA tonight. With the loss, Case falls to 10-7 and 2-4 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while Brandeis improves to 9-7 and 2-4 in the UAA. Case will return to action Sunday afternoon in a 1:00 p.m. contest at #24 New York University.
Brandeis held a narrow 35-33 lead after the first 20 minutes of action. Steve DeLuca (Merrimack, NH) had a first-half high of 11 points to give the Judges the advantage. Three-point shooting made the difference in the first period as Brandeis was 6-for-16 from behind the arc while Case made just one trey in six attempts. The Spartans actually shot better from the field at 53.3% compared to 43.3% for Brandeis, but were still behind at the halfway mark. Conrad led Case with 10 points in the first half.
Case built a three-point lead, 47-44 at the 14:10 mark, but the Judges scored the next 10 points to take the lead for good. The Judges improved their shooting to 54.5% in the second period to finish 31-63 (49.2%) in the game. Case dropped to 38.7% shooting in the second 20 minutes to finish the game at 45.9% (28-61) from the field. Brandeis' DeLuca led all scorers in the game with 23 points on an excellent 9-for-11 shooting night. Florian Rexhepi (Skopje, Macedonia) added 16 points and Stephen Hill (Brighton, MA) finished with 14 points for the Judges.
Carson Oren (South Bend, IN) contributed 12 points for the Spartans while Matt Cannan (Dublin, OH) added 11 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
