MEN'S BASKETBALL—2005-06

Carson Oren also became the University’s all-time leading scorer at the 17:30 mark in the second half when he scored his 1,457 career point. With his game total, the new record for points currently stands at 1,461.

Case drops to 1-2 in the UAA and 9-5 overall while Washington U. improves to 2-1 and 10-4 overall. The Spartans will travel to Pittsburgh on Friday to face Carnegie Mellon University in Skibo Gymnasium at 8:00 p.m.

Case struggled from the field in the first half, only connecting on 12-of-32 (37.5%), as they trailed the Bears 46-32 at the intermission. Oren had 12 of his game high 20 points in the half, but the Spartans had their only lead of the game 2-0 with 19:53 remaining in the game and trailed by as many as 19. Washington shot 45.5 percent from the field and out rebounded Case 22-20 in the half.

The Spartan shooting woes continued in the second half as they hit just 12-of-31 shots for 38.7%. For the game, Case was just 1-13 from behind the three-point arc. Washington continued their strong shooting performance as they hit 16-of-28 shots (57.1%) from the floor. Case cut the lead to seven points with 9:55 remaining in the game, but Washington senior guard Scott Stone (St. Louis, MO) scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half to put the Spartans away. For the game, Case had a 40-35 rebounding edge.

Senior guard Funso Lafe (Chesterland, OH), a local Hawken product, added 14 points which gives him 1,002 for his career. Lafe eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in just three seasons with the Spartans. Mason Conrad (Tarpon Springs, FL) scored 12 points to round out the Spartan scorers in double figures. Freshman forward Tyler Nading (Highlands Ranch, CO) added 17 points for Washington.
